Divisions of PNS
A. Sensory
1. Somatic
2. Visceral
B. Motor
1. Somatic
2. Autonomic
a. Sympathetic (fight or flight)
b. Parasympathetic (rest and digest)
Route of Somatic Receptor Neurons

AFFERANT
1. Sensation
2. Through Dorsal Ramus
3. Through Dorsal Root
a. Dorsal Root Ganglia (location of cell bodies)
4. Stop in Gray Matter of Dorsal Horn
Route of Somatic Motor Neurons

EFFERENT
1. Leave Ventral Horn
2. Go through Ventral Root
3. Connect up with Somatic Sensory Neurons at Spinal Nerve
4. Leave through Ventral Ramus
5. Connects to smooth muscle
Autonomic Sympathetic Neuron route to Outer Tube Locations
1. Pre-Synaptic or Pre-Ganglionic Neuron body lies in CNS.
2. Synapse
3. Post-synaptic or Postganglonic Neuron is in PNS
4. T1 --> L2
Sympathetic Motor Neuron Pathway to Outer Tube
1. Leaves Lateral Horn
2. Travels through Ventral root
3 Enters into Ventral Ramus
4. Exits Ventral Ramus
*5. Synapses with Post Ganglionic Neurons.
*6. If in T1 -->L2 the effector is near by, post-ganglionic neurons enter into gray ramus and out through ventral or dorsal ramus
7* If effector is superior or inferior to T1 or L2, pre Ganglonic neuron enters into Sympathetic chain ganglia (paravertabral ganglion) and synapses in another gray ramus. Postganglionic neuron leaves thru ventral or dorsal ramus.
Sympathetic Motor Neuron Effectors of "outer tube"
1. Sweat Glands
2. Erector Pili
3. Arteries
Autonomic Sympathetic Pathway to the Inner Tube Effectors and Location
1. Heart and Lungs
2. Diaphragm and digestive system
3. Location of synapse is close to Effector
Autonomic Sympathetic Neuron to Inner Tube
1. Leave Lateral Horn
2. Pre-Ganglionic passes through Ventral Root
3. Enter White Ramus (on medial side of donut)
4*. T1 -->T5 Pre-ganglionic neuron synapsis with Post-ganglionic similar to outer neuron
5* In T6 Pre-ganglonic neuron leaves and travels to effector. (Splanchnic Nerve). Synapses on effect to post-ganglia effecter. (space is: pre-vertebral ganglia)
Splanchnic Nerve
Never of the sympathetic Pathway to diaphram and digestive system
Autonomic Parasympathetic Nervous System Location
1. Long Preganglionic. Body lies in CNS, axon stretches into PNS.
2. Short post ganglionic
Central Nerve III
Eye
Central Nerve VII
Lacrimal
Central Nerve IX

Salivary glands
Pelvic Splanchnic
S2 - Colon, Kidney, Urinary Bladder
S3 - Urinary Bladder
S4 - Penis and Scrotum/Uterus and Overy
