What was the geocentric theory?
Ancient description where earth is at the center with the moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Ju-piter, and Saturyn in consecutive spheres with the stars in the outermost sphere.
What is wrong with the geocentric theory?
Planets sometimes appeared to be large, bright and close, and at other times they seem smaller, dimmer, and farther away. They alway would appear to slow down, stop and reverse their motion.
What does eccentric mean?
Off-centered; elongated
What is the heliocentric model of the universe?
Sun-centered. The planets are arranged outward from the sun in the following order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Only the moon orbits the earth.
What is rotation and what evidences support rotation?
To spin on an axis.
Evidence that supports is the earth's bulging shape. Earth is slightly flattened at the poles and bulge at the equator
What is revolution?
To orbit around another point.
