The holderness Coast

Where is the holderness Coast located?

Located along the East Riding of Yorkshire, holderness, stretches between Bridlington and flamborough head. With flamborough head in the north and spurn head in the south.

Why is the holderness Coast so special?

It has the fastest eroding in the coastline in Europe. Nearly two metres of its coastline is lost every year.

What has happened to the holderness Coast in the past?

- since Roman times, it has eroded by 4km and 29 villages have been lost.



- during the winter of 2006-2007, 5 metres vanished from parts of the area, including the surrounding area of the coastal resort skipsea.



- a storm in 1967 in the village of Bramston, 1km South of Bridlington, cause the Coast to retreat by 10 metres, leaving 12 bungalows so near to the cliff edge, they had to be demolished.

What are the economic impacts of erosion at the Holderness Coast?

There is a gas terminal at Easington, where North Sea gas supplies are piped ashore.
