What's the magnification of a light microscope |
1500x |
What is resolution? |
The ability to see two objects that are close together as separate objects |
Why is lignin important? |
-strengthens, to prevent collapse. -waterproofing, reduce loss of water. -adhesion of water |
What is Diastole? |
Relax, blood returns to the atria through the pulmonary vein and the vena cava. They fill up and pressure increases as muscles are relaxed. |
What is Atrial systole? |
Contraction, right and left atria contract forcing out remaining blood. |
What is ventricular systole |
Contraction, atria relax and pressure lowers. Both ventricals contract and pressure increases. Pressure causes valve to close to prevent blood going back. High pressure causes semi lunar valve to open. |
Primary structure |
Sequence of amino acids found in a molecule |
Secondary structure |
Coiling or folding of an amino acid chain from hydrogen bonds at different parts of the chain |
Tertiary structure |
Overall 3d shape of protein caused by H boding, disulphide bridges, ionic bonds and hydrophobic interactions. |
Quaternary structure |
Protein structure where a protein consists of more than one polypeptide chain. |
Fibrous protein |
Long thin structure, insoluble in water and metabolically inactive. Have a structure role |
Globular proteins |
Spherical shape, soluble in water have metabolic roles. |
Prosthetic group |
A non protein component that forms permanent part of protein molecule |
What catalysis the unwinding of a DNA helix |
Gyrase |
Catalysis the unzipping of DNA |
Helicase |
Tissue |
Group of cells that together to perform a specific function /functions |
