Articles of Confederation

Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government was weak. Why did the states make it so?

They were afraid that a strong government would take away their freedoms and resemble Great Britain.

How is the story of America's government similar to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears?

America began as British colonies: had no say in Parliament or with the King and the gov't had too much power (too hot)


America broke with Britain became the United States of America and created their own government, the Articles of Confederation. However, they didn't give this government enough power, because of their experience with Britain. Finally, they created the U.S. Constitution, which had more power than the Articles of Confederation, but less than Parliament and the king had. It was just right!
