Ascending Aorta
Goes from left ventricle to the aortic arch
Aortic Arch
branches into the brachiocephalic trunk, the left common carotid artery, and the left subclavian artery

Goes inferiorly to the descending aorta
Descending Aorta
-Goes from the aortic arch down to the abdominal aorta
- branches off into the posterior intercostal arteries
Left subclavian
-Has 3 branches
- superior side: left vertebral artery and the thyocervical trunk
-inferior side: left internal thoracic artery
-becomes axillary in armpit, and brachial in arm
Left common carotid
goes from the aortic arch and branches into the internal and external carotid arteries
Internal carotid
-goes inside the skull and comes out behind the optic nerve. supplies blood to the anterior side of brain
External carotid
-splits into facial artery and superficial temporal artery
brachiocephalic trunk
-branches off the aortic arch
-becomes the right common carotid and right subclavian arteries
Basilar artery
-the joining of the two vertebral arteries to form the blood supply for the posterior half of the brain
facial artery
artery that branches off of the external carotid, is seen along with the facial vein as two loops posterior to the lips
superficial temporal artery
-found under the parotid gland, found on the superior portion of the temporalis muscle
vagus nerve
-found in the neck between the carotid and the internal jugular, wraps around the arch of the aorta and innervates the heart
Posterior intercostal arteries
-string-like arteries coming out of the descending aorta.
-visible when the descending aorta is pulled up anteriorly
Celiac Trunk
-branches off from the abdominal aorta
-bifurcates into splenic artery and the common hepatic artery
-left gastric artery comes off of here
Splenic artery
-one of the two branches off of the celiac trunk.
-runs from the celiac trunk to the spleen.
-left gastropepiploic artery branches off of here
Left Gastroepiploic artery
-branches off of the splenic artery and runs around the greater curve of the stomach.
-meets up and merges with the right gastroepiploic artery
Right gastroepiploic artery
-one of the branches of the bifurcation of the gastroduodenal artery
-runs around the greater curve of the stmoach and meets up with the left gastroepiploic artery
Left Gastric artery
-Comes off right between the two branches of the celiac trunk
-runs around the lesser curve of the stomach and meets up with the right gastric artery
Right Gastric artery
-is found branching off of the middle of the bifurcation of the common hepatic artery, as it branches into the proper hepatic and gastroduodenal arteries
Common hepatic artery
-one of the two branches of the bifurcation of the celiac trunk
-runs from the celiac trunk until it bifurcates into the proper hepatic and gastroduodenal arteries
Proper hepatic Artery
-the superior of the two branches of the bifurcation of the common hepatic artery
-runs from the bifurcation to the liver
-cystic artery branches off of here
Gastroduodenal Artery
-The inferior of the two branches of the bifurcation of the common hepatic artery
-Bifurcates into the pancreaticoduodenal artery and the right gastroepiploic artery
Superior mesenteric artery
-A branch off of the abdominal aorta
-branches into Jejunal, Ileal, right Colic and middle colic arteries
Jejunal Artery
a Branch off of the superior meseneteric artery
Ileal Artery
A branch off of the superior mesenteric artery
Right colic Artery
-A branch off the superior mesenteric artery
- goes to the Ascending colon portion of the large intestine
Middle colic Artery
- A branch off of the superior mesenteric artery
-Goes to the transverse colon portion of the large intestine
Left and Right Renal Arteries
-Branch off from the abdominal aorta and go to the kidneys
left and right gonadal Arteries
-Branch off of the abdominal aorta and go to the gonads
inferior mesenteric Artery
-Branches off of the Abodominal Aorta, then branches into Left Colic, Sigmoidal, and Rectal Arteries
Left colic Artery
-Branches off from the inferior mesenteric Artery
-Runs to the descending colon portion of the large intestine
Sigmoidal Artery
-Branches off from the inferior mesenteric Artery
-Runs to the sigmoid colon
Rectal Artery
-Branches off from the inferior mesenteric Artery
-Guess what it runs to....
left and Right common iliac arteries
-The abdominal Aorta bifurcates into the left and right common iliac arteries
internal and external iliac arteries
- the common iliac (left or right) bifurcates into the internal and external iliac arteries
-internal runs deep to external
