Old kingdom c. 2520-2494 BC Khafre wears a kilt & sits rigidly on a throne formed of two lions' bodies(symbol of united Egypt) royal Beard shows his status as pharaoh, bird (Horus) embracing head showing his protection, made of Diorite stone to last for eternity, closed form (all apendages hug the body (not extended), representing an eternal stillness. |

MENKAURE AND KHAMERERNEBTY -
Old Kingdom Displays power and authority Rigidly frontal, fists clenched. Left leg slightly advanced. Khamerernebty(wife) stands in similiar position but, right arm is around king's waist w/left hand resting on his left arm( this indicates their marital status). No signs of affection. |

An ancient necropolis("city of the dead") Composed of a series of mastabas decreasing in size on top of one another. Beneath pyramid is a network of underground galleries resembling a palace. Stands near the center of a rectangular enclosure surrounded by a wall of limestone. |
