Line
The use of line in art is a human invention, a unique method of perceiving and documenting the visible world. Lines vary in weight, width, and emphasis. They may be delicate, bold, static, flowing, rhythmic, ponderous, hesitant or dynamic. They can be achieved through freedom and spontanaety, or thoughtful and deliverate action. They may converge, radiate, run parrallel, meander, twist, skip, criss-cross to create a variety of usual effects (whachowiak & roberts, 2001)
Linear
determined or characterized by the use of line
curvilinear
consisting of a curved line or lines
actual line
the path made by moving a point; a connected and continous series of points
implied line
a line that is completed by the viewer; a discontinuous line that the viewer perceives as being continuing. A line suggested by a series of points or dots, or by the endpoints of a series of lines; a line evoked by the movements and glances of the figures in a composition.
value scale
white is a reflective color
chiarscuro
an artistic technique in which subtle gradiations of value create the illusion of rounded three demensional forms in space.
