Proton Pump Inhibitors (zole)

dark feces, pyuria, hemturia, LT-hip fractures, can increase risk of pneumonia/c.diff

H2 Receptor antagonists (dine)

CNS, confusion, altered mental status, hallucinations, rash, NVD, thrombocytopenia

Antacids

dark stools, bleching, renal insuffciency can result in toxicity of Mg, Ca, Na

Sulcrafate

diarhea, caution iwth renal impariment, can cause constipation

Cytotec (misoprostol)

frequent diarrhea and cramps that resolves after a week 

Pepto-Bismol

blackening of stool, darkening of tongue, encephalopathy, salicylate toxicity in high doses, cauton in patient taking aspirin or warfarin

Reglan

CNS, avoid LT use, EPS, diarhea, increased ptolactin levels, seizures, contra iwth GI obstruction

Erythromycin

drug interactions- can potentiate warfarin, protease inhibitors, cyclosporine

Serotonin 5-HT3 antagonists "sertron"

headache, dizziness, constipation, QT prolongation

Phenothiazines

sedative hypotension, extrapyramidal effects, anticholinergic- constipation, dialation, double vision, confusion, tachycardia

Corticosteroids

euphoria, anxiety, insomnia, fluid retention, mood changes, hyperglycemia, increased appetite 

Beta adrengeric agonist

tachycardia, hypokalemia, tremors, 

Methylxanthines

seizues, insomnia, tacycardia, N/V, tremor

Anticholinergic

headache, blurred vision, tachycardia, urinary retention

Corticosteroids (anti-inflam)

fungal infections, hyperglycemia, psych disturbances (delirious), LT- osterporis/fractures, hypertension, thinning of the skin (impaired wound healing), adrenal axis supression, myopathy, immunosupression, glaucoma, can lead to Cushing's syndrome

Xolair

Injection site bruising, redness, burning, pain

Sulfonylureas (Glyburide, Glipizide, Glimepiride)

Hypoglycemia because 24 hours, not good for people who skip meals, rash, photosensitivity, GI effects-LFT, weight gain

Meglitinides (Prandin, Starlix)

more drug interactions, hypoglycemia but less than sulfa, weight gain

Biguanides (metformin)

GI upset, lactic acidosis, 100% eliminated in kidneys, contra in hypoxic states such as HF, alcohol abuse, CHF therapy

Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors (Acarbose, Miglitol)

GI effects, Acarbose increase LFT's at high doses, contra with significant GI disorder

Thiazolidinesdiones (Rosiglitazone, Pioglitazone)

hepatotoxicity, edema, fracture risk (caution with osteoporosis), contra with bladder cancer (pioglitazone), contra for CHF- observe for symptoms of HF

GLP-1 agonists (Exenatide and Liraglutide)

N/V, headache, pancreatitis, contra renal insufficiency, contra- hx. of medullary thyroid cancer

DDP-4 Inhibitors (Sitagliptin, "lipton)

Pancreatitis, adjust for renal dysfunction

Amylin Analogue  (Symlin)

severe hypoglycemia, GI disturbances
