Pathos
An appeal to emotion – needs to associate with a certain topic. “Obama and McCain.”
Ethos
Classical – Ethical appeal: Morals, ethics. Modern appeal: presenting yourself as reliable and identify with audience
Logos
an appeal with logic and reason, syllogism, “a=b, b=c, a=c”
Toulmin
arguments that begin with a claim that is supported by reasons, connected by a reasonable warrant (bridge logically connecting claim). They can be qualified.
Fact
an attempt to establish or correct whether something is or not so. “if something exists” “If they are tomatoes in Camarillo.”
Definition
What become is or not so. Trying to classify. “tomato is a fruit or a vegetable.”
Evaluation
Argues something as good/bad, best/worst, anything on a scale. By establishing criteria, from which it can be objectively compared with.
Causal
Either you start from the cause and arguing the effects will be. Or starting from the effects and arguing what the cause was.
Proposal
An audience or group should do a plan or proposal because of a certain problem/need.
