What is Anatomy?
the study of the structure of the body.
What is Physiology?
describes how the body works or functions.
What is Pathophysiology?
the consequences of the improper functioning of body parts
The Body is organized from what to what?
Simple to complex.
Discuss 5 steps on how the organ system develops.
1. Tiny atoms form molecules = larger molecules.
2. L. Molecules are organized into cells.
3. Cells are organized into groups = tissues.
4. Tissues are arranged into organs.
5. Group of organs create an organ system.
Name 3 examples of organs.
Heart, stomach, kidneys, etc.
Name the 11 major organ systems.
1. Integumentary system
2. Skeletal System
3. Muscular System
4. Nervous System
5. Endocrine System
6. Circulatory System
7. Lymphatic System
8. Respitory System
9. Digestive System
10. Urinary System
11. Reproductive System
What is the integumentary system?
Consists of skin and related structures, such as hair and nails.
What is the skeletal system?
The basic framework of the body which consists mostly of bones, joints and cartilage.
What is muscular system?
Consists of 3 types of muscles. Skeletal muscles attach to bones and are responisble for movement of skeleton and the maintenance of body posture.
What is the Nervous System?
consists of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and sense organs.
What is the Endocrine System?
Consists of the numerous glands that secrete hormones and chemical substances that regulate body activities, such as growth, reproduction, metabolism, and water balance.
What is the Circulatory System?
Consists of the heart and blood vessels. This system pumps and transports blood throughout the body.
What is the Lymphatic System?
Consists of the lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, lymph and other lymphoid organs.
What is the Respitory System?
Consists of the lungs and other organs that conducts air to and from the lungs.
What is the Digestive System?
Consists of organs designed to eat food, break it down into substances that can be absorbed by the body and eliminates the waste.
What is the Urinary System?
Consists of the kidneys and other structures that help excrete waste products from the body through urine.
What is the Reproductive System?
Consists of organs and structures that help humans reproduce.
What is Homeostasis?
Means staying the same. It's the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment in response to a changing external environment.
What mechanisms help maintain homeostasis?
Homeostatic mechanisms. The body has 100s of them.
What is the Anatomical Position?
The body is standing erect, with the face forward, the arms at the sides and the toes and palms of the hands directed forward.
