Where is the oral cavity located and what does it contain? What is the oral cavity continuous with?
The oral cavity, commonly called the mouth, contains the tongue and teeth. It's continuous w/ the rest of the digestive tube, which opens to the exterior at the anus.
Where is the nasal cavity located and what system is it a part of?
Located w/in and posterior to the nose, the nasal cavity is part of the passages of the respiratory system.
Where are the orbital cavities located and what do they contain?
The orbital cavities (orbits) in the skull house the eyes and present them in and anterior position.
Where are the middle ear cavities and what do they contain?
Each middle ear cavity lies just medial to an eardrum and is carved into the bony skull. These cavities contain tiny bones that transmit sound vibrations to the organ of hearing in the inner ears.
Where are the synovial cavities located?
Synovial cavities are joint cavities- they are enclosed w/in fibrous capsules that surround the freely movable joints of the body, such as those between the vertebrae and the knee and hip joints.
How are synovial cavities similar to serous membranes of the ventral body cavity?
They secrete a lubricating fluid that reduces friction as the enclosed structures move across on another.
