What is the only primary flight control that is not FBW (Fly-By-Wire)?
Ailerons
What is the difference between normal mode and direct mode?
There are no higher level functions available in direct mode
What is the priority for the trim system?
Back-up
Captain First Officer Autopilot |
How is roll controlled?
Ailerons and multi-function spoilers (outer 3 spoilers on each wing)
How many multi-function spoilers are on each wing? What are their functions?
3 outboard spoilers to assist in roll control, speed brakes, and for ground spoilers.
(2 inboard are ground spoilers only) |
When will the speed brakes automatically close even if the level shows deployed?
Indicated airspeed < 180 kts
Flaps > 1 TLA > 70º |
What is the flap/slat extension/retraction sequence?
Slats extend first flaps retract first
Will loss of airspeed data cause the flight controls to go into 'DIRECT' mode?
Yes
Can a FCM override pilot input?
No, the pilot always has supreme control
What happens to artificial feel if flight controls are disconnected?
Artificial feel is felt at 1/2 the normal load
How are the flight controls trimmed?
Roll & Yaw: Ailerons and Rudder surface repositioned to a new "neutral position"
Pitch: Horizontal Stabilizer |
Will the multi-function spoilers function in 'DIRECT' mode?
Yes, but at a default fixed gain is used Roll function only
What happens to the flight control system when the RAT is the only AC power source?
Horizontal stab trim operates at 1/2 speed Slat/flap system operates at 1/2 speed Slap/flap position is limited to '3' to allow adequate airspeed for the RAT
What are the two main parts of the Fly-by-Wire primary flight control electronics?
Primary Actuator Control Electronics (P-ACE) and Flight Control Module (FCM)
What does pressing the AP/TRIM DISC button do?
Disconnects both HS-ACE channels but only while held. Releasing it will activate the channel again
How many ACEs are installed?
Six (three P-ACE, two SF-ACE and one HS-ACE)
How can the pilot disconnect a jammed rudder?
No
What is the purpose of the Pitch Trim switch?
To trim the airplane when the autopilot is off.
Do all multi-function spoiler panels deploy symmetrically in response to speed brake lever position?
Yes
What happens when you select only half of either pitch trim switch on the control wheel or the pitch trim sys 1(2) cutout for more than 5 seconds?
That switch will not work for the remainder of the flight, and must be reset on the ground.
Where can you find a visual representation of the flight control system operations and parameters?
The flight control system synoptic page on the MFD.
Explain in general terms, what the direct mode is?
The flight control mode (FCM) is removed from the control loop and the control limits default to the values set by the primary actuator control Electronics (P-ACE).
What are the 2 modes of operation for the elevator and rudder fly-by-wire system?
Normal and Direct mode.
What would cause the FCM to go into the direct mode?
The loss of airspeed data.
Are ground spoilers and speed brakes operational when operating in the direct mode?
No
Which flight controls use electrical power instead of hydraulic power for actuation?
The flaps and slats.
What happens if the yaw and roll trim switches are held in position more than 3 seconds?
The trim stops. The knob must now be released and re-energized prior to the next application.
If the Captain or FO's control column is separated in flight, when can they be reset?
They can only be reset by maintenance on the ground.
High Level Functions Spoilers
Roll spoiler scheduling with airspeed & speed brake deployment Spoiler deployment at high mach number
High Level Functions Stabilator
Configuration change compensation
High Level Functions- Yaw
Gain on airspeed -as airspeed increases -rudder deflection decreases.
Yaw damper Turn coordination Thrust asymmetry |
High Level Functions- Pitch
Gain on Airspeed
Elevator thrust compensation AOA Limiting |
On which side is the artificial feel for the ailerons?
Captain's
When do the spoilers automatically deploy?
Following met simultaneously:
WOW Wheel speed >45 kts or airspeed >60KIAS. TLA < 26 degrees Following rollout the spoilers will automatically retract when wheel speed is <45 kts for 5 seconds. If the throttles are moved beyond 35 degrees after landing the spoiler panel will retract. |
