Antiemetics

Reduce the urge to vomit. Also referred to as "antinausea". Many work by blocking messages to the "vomiting center" of the brain.

Setron (s5HT3 Receptor Antagonist) Drugs

Common antiemetics. These all end in -setron. Ex. dolasetron, granisetron, ondansetron, tropisetron, and palonosetron.

Scopolamine

Highly effective in treatment of nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, and intestinal cramping; however, it is highly toxic and can only be taken in small doses.

Meclizine

Primary ingredient in Bonine/Antivert.


Antihistamine that is good at controlling symptoms of nausea and vomiting.

Promethazine

Trade Name: Phenergan


Powerful antiemetic

Compazine and Tigan

Other common medications to treat nausea and vomiting

Pepto-Bismol

Over-the-counter antiemetic. Provides a soothing, protective coat to the lining of the stomach.
