What they do...
Similar to Beta blockers - inhibit Ca influx

Decrease SA/AV conductivity

Slows SVT, a-fib, a-flutter

Prime side effect: hypotension & bradycardia
verapamil (Isoptin, Calan)
decreases SA & AV node conduction; decreases PVR; relaxes coronary vascular muscle

Indications: SVT/PSVT refractory to adensine, a-fib, a-flutter, angina

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity

Side Effects: Weakness, dizziness, bradycardia, reflex tachycardia
diltiazem hydrochloride (Cardizem)
Class: Ca chan.block, Class IV antidysrhythmic, antianginal

Mech of action: Inhibits Ca influx across cell membranes = coronary artery dilation, decrease PVR, slow SA/AV node conduction

Indications: A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT/PSVT
nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat)
Class: Class IV antidys., Ca chan blocker, antianginal

Mech of Action: relaxes coronary vascular smooth muscle, decreases SA / AV node conduction, decreases PVR

Indications: Angina, hypertension
