Cell Membrane

Animal cell membrane is more fluid than a plant cell's membrane. Maintainshomeostasis. Protects and supports.
Cell Wall
stiff rigid found in plant cells only. Protects and supports the cell. Permeable.
Nucleus
The control centre for the cell. Contains all genetic information in order to tell the other cells what to make or do.
Cytoplasm
thick substance in both. provide shape and support to the cell membrane. conatins and holds up all the organels.site for many celluar reactions protein synthesis. lysosomal digestion.
Nucleolus
makes ribosomes. which is necessary for protein synthesis. surrounded by a double membrane.

DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid. contains cell blueprints to tell the cell what to do such as new proteins and molecules.
Chromatin
thick string like strands of dna and proteins found in the nucleus. condenses to form chromosomes.
Ribosome
free living or attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. composed of proteins and rna. responsible for building proteins in cells.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
two forms smooth and rough. forms a tubular network through the cell. transport chemicals within cells. forms sacs to store proteins and other substances produced by the cell. provides site for the chemical reactions and synthesis.
Golgi Body
acts as a packaging department ready to deliver the protein products made in the cell.
Mitochondrion
makes energy from sugar and oxygen so the cell can use it. composed of a modified double unit membrane.
Chloroplast
site of photosynthesis. which is the basic food source for the organism. it requires sunlight and turns water and co2 into sugar and oxygen.
Vacuole
in plants the central vacuole is large and helps maintain the internal pressure. fluid filled membrane bound sacs with little or no internal structure used to store cell products.
Lysosome
membrane bound sac. filled with digestive enzymes. they help break down and remove old worn out cell parts. they digest food particles brought into the cell. only needed by animal cells.
Centriole
used in cell division to pull chromosomes apart. only found in animal cells. always in pairs.
