Free-soil Party
it is a political party dedicated to stopping the expansion of slavery.
Missouri Compromise 1820
it was the proposal by Kentucky senator Henry Clay to make Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state. It also called for the banning of slavery anywhere above the 36 30 line.
Comprimise 1850
Senator Henry Clay had another proposition in 1850 when California, which was both above and below the 36 30 line wanted to be admitted to the Union. California would be free to please the North and to please the South, the Fugitive Slave Law which would help Southerners catch runaway slaves.
Kansas-Nebraska Act
It is an 1854 law that established the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and gave their residents of the right to decide whether to allow slavery.

Henry Clay is a Kentucky senator who proposed the Missouri Comprimise of 1820 and the Comprimise of 1850.
John Brown
He was a slave abolitionist who attempted to remove slavery by taking over the US armory and getting the Virginians to rebel. He had failed and he was hanged.

Dred Scott v. Sanford
Dred Scott, an African-American slave, was taken by his owners to free territory. He attempted to sue for his freedom. This case went to the federal court because the Missouri Compromise and the Fugitive Slave Law couldn't work together.
