What is skin?
- It is an integument or cutaneous membrane consisting of a thin epidermis (epithelium), a tough dermis (a connective tissue), and hypodermis (a fatty connective tissue, also called superficial fascia).
- Deep to the skin, is the deep fascia (a connective tissue) |
What are the three groups of epithelia?
- True epithelia (mucosa): Lying upon its connective tissue, lines the surface that connect directly to the surface of the body
- Mesothelia (serosa): A mesothelium and its loose connective tissue is an epithelia that lines the pericardial, pleural, and peritoneal cavities. - Endothelia: The inner linings of the heart and aorta. All blood vessels and lymphatic channels have an internal lining of endothelium. |
What are the classification groups of connective tissues?
- Loose and Dense connective tissue proper
- Cartilage - Bone - Blood |
What are some examples of connective tissues?
- Hypodermis
- Fat - Fascia - Tendon and Aponeurosis - Ligaments - Cartilage - Bone |
What is fascia?
- It is a connective tissue
What is hypodermis tissue?
- Defined as "under the dermis"
- Is also called the Superficial fascia - It lies between the skin and Deep Fascia that surrounds skeletal muscles. - superficial fascia may be fatty (adipose connective tissue) or airy (areolar connective tissue) |
What is Deep Fascia tissue?
- It is connective tissue that surrounds all the skeletal muscles in the body.
What are the three types of muscle?
- Cardiac
- Smooth - Skeletal |
What is an example of cardiac muscle?
- The myocardium of the heart
What is an example of smooth muscle?
- The muscle layers of the bladder or uterus
What is an example of skeletal muscle?
- Voluntary muscles such as quadriceps femoris or briceps brachii
What is a nerve?
What are some examples? |
- Neurons which make up nerves are a very specialized type of cell.
- Examples: Femoral, Vagus, Phrenic, Tibial, and Common fibular nerves |
