lumber - 5
saccreal - 5 (fused) coccyseal - 3-4 (fused) |
What is an abnormality of the vertebral bones called?
Scoliosis.
What is the name of the lateral opening in the spine where the dorsal and ventral root ganglion appear from?
Vertebral foramen.
What is the main tendon that covers the posterior surface of the spine?
The posterior longitudinal tendon.
What is the name of the part of bone which protrudes outwards and you can feel on your back?
Spinous process.
What is the part of the vertebrae that sticks out laterally?
The transverse process.
What are the two layers of muscles of the back?
Superfical and deep.
Do the superficial muscles attach to the spine?
No
Name the superficial muscles of the back.
Lattisimus dorsi, levetor scapulae, trapezius and rhomboidus.
Name the two main deep muscles of the back.
Erector spinae and transversospinalis.
What the the three types of injury to the intervertbral discs?
Bulge no leakage.
Hermiation nucleus of the disc nearly bulges out from annulus fibrous and extrusion where the nucleus has leaked into the spinal cord area. |
What is the structure of an intervertbral disc?
Annulous fibrous surrounding a gel like center called the nucleus which is 90% water.
What is the role of the annulous fibrous and the nucleus?
The annulous fibrous provies the framwork of the joint and it keeps the vertebral discs together. The nucleus acts a shock absorber and keeps the dics apart so that they don't rub against each other.
