Name the 3 cell shapes of epithelial tissue.

Squamous (flat), Cuboidal (square), Columnar (rectangle)

Name the 2 types of exocrine glands and give an example of each.

Simple: sweat and sebaceous glands

Compound: mammary and large salivary glands

Name 4 functions of epithelial tissue.

Protection, absorption, secretion, and excretion.

Compare the structure of the epithelial tissue with that of connective tissue.

Epithelial tissue is made up of closely packed together cells with very little intercellular material

Connective tissue is made of lots of intercellular material called matrix that are not packed together.

Why is adipose tissue considered a good insulator?

It acts as a firm, protective packing around in between organs bundles of muscle fibers and nerves and it supports blood vessel protecting us from excessive heat loss or heat increase.

Name 5 functions of connective tissue and give examples.

-Protection and support: bone

-Nourishment and transport: blood

-Connections: tendons

-Insulation: adipose (fat cells)

-Storage: bone (Ca & PO4), adipose (fat)

Name the 3 types of muscle tissue.

Cardiac, smooth, skeletal.

Name the 2 types of nerve cells found in nervous tissue.

Neurons: for transmitting impulses.

Neuroglia: for support and protection.
