FIBROUS PERICARDIUM

tough, inelastic bag that rests on and attaches to the diaphragm

SEROUS PERICARDIUM

thin and delicate membrane that forms a double layer around the heart. 2 layers: parietal (fused to the fibrous pericardium) and visceral aka epicardium (adheres tightly to the surface of the heart and is one of the layers of the heart wall)

PERICARDIAL CAVITY & FLUID

potential space formed between the two layers of the serous pericardium. contains a small amount of serous fluid that reduces friction and allows movement of the heart.
