Kidney
Primary organ of urinary system: osmoregulation and excretion
Major Calyx
in the kidney, surrounds the apex of the pyramids. Urine formed in the kidney passes through a papilla at the apex into a minor calyx then into major calyx before passing through the renal pelvis into the ureter.
Minor Calyx
in the kidney, surrounds the apex of the pyramids. Urine formed in the kidney passes through a papilla at the apex into the minor calyx then into the major calyx.
Renal Pelvis
is the funnel-like dilated proximal part of the ureter in the kidney.The major function of the renal pelvis is to act as a funnel for urine flowing to the ureter.
Ureter
are muscular ducts that propel urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder.
Medula
the innermost part of the kidney. The renal medulla is split up into a number of sections, known as the renal pyramids.
Cortex
is the outer portion of the kidney between the renal capsule and the renal medulla
Capsule
is a tough fibrous layer surrounding the kidney
Uriniferous Tubule
functional part of kidney consists of nephron and collecting tubule
Nephron
is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney. Its chief function is to regulate the concentration of water and soluble substances like sodium salts by filtering the blood, reabsorbing what is needed and excreting the rest as urine.
