Bill of Rights
The first 10 amendments to the constitution.

~It guarentees specific rights and liberties and was viewed as as significant constraint on the national government's encroachment on those liberties.
Checks and Balances
A governmental structure that gives different branches or levels of government some degree of oversight and control over the actions of the others so that no governmental institution exercises a monopoly of power.
Conservative
One who wishes to preserve what is thought to be best in established society or appeals for a return to a percieved past ideal; in the United States, a proponent of limited government, individual rights, and private property.
Constitution
The set of fundamental rules and law of a nation that form the framework of the relationship between government and the people.
Constitutionalism
A belief in written cinstitution as the fundamental law and sacred text of people.
Democracy
A system of government that gives power and political authority to the people under a system of majority rule.

Democracy is greek for "rule by the people"
