Tacrine brand name, dosis, uses
Cognex, Inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, 10 - 40 mg QID. Not used anymore for its hepatotoxycity
Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors actions
Inhibit the enzime that transform acethylcholine:
salivation, urination and defecation
Anticholinergic drugs
Benadryl (dipheniramine), ipatropium, chlorpheniramina, meclizine, scopolamine, Atropine
Donepezil drug, doses administration, side effects
Aricept, 10-20 md QHS most used, Nausea
Rivastigmine brand name, administration
Exelon 1.5 - 6 mg caps, bid w/f
Anticholinergics & short term memory
reduces short term memory
Galantamine brand name, doses, administration
Razadyne, 4 mg bid or 8 mg ER qAm with meal.
Galantamine maximum dose before hepatic or renal impairment
Should not excede of 8 mg bid
Cholinesterasa inhibitors drugs
Aricept (donepezil), Razadyne (galantamine), Rivastigmine (exelon)
Cholinesterasa inhibitors adverse effects
n/v, bradycardia, worsen COPD or asthma, cholinergic effects (increase urination, salivation and defecation)
Neostigmine and Physostigmine uses
Miastenia gravis. Improves muscle strength
Cholinesterase inhibitors drug interactions:
Anticholinergics: antagonist effects (benadryl), antipsycotic drugs, cholinesterase inhibitors will have additive effects
Treatment for overdose of an Cholinesterase inhibitors drug
Atropine 0.5 - 1.0 mg IV q 3-5 min
Namantadine Brand name, dose, anticholinergic?
Namenda, 5 - 10 mg, initiate with 5 mg qd until 10 mg bid. Alzheimer's, no cholinergics side effects
Namantadine MOA and side effects
Glutaminergic agent. NMD receptor antagonist. Dizziness, confusion, constipation, h/a, rash.
Namantadine drug interactions
alcaline urine, increases namantadine blood levels, and side effects. May interfire with blood levels of quinine and diuretics
NMDA drugs
mamantadine, amantadine (symmetrel), ketamine and dextromethorphan. Do not combine then may potentiate its effects
