Breifly explain the role each of the 4 basic elements of effective communication play in the overall communication process.

1. The sender must encode & transmit the msg in a discernible form to the receiver and respond to feedback.
2. The msg is the thoughts, feelings or ideas that have been packed & sent from the sender to the receiver.
3. The receiver is the intended recipient of the msg.
4. Feedback is acknowledgment of successful or unsuccessful receipt of the msg and is communicated from the receiver to the sender.

Look at the feedback of the receiver indicating that the intended msg was received & accuratly interpreted by the receiver. This feeback may also be in the form of the receiver taking desired actions.
Breifly describe the 3 directions of formal flow of communication in a typical organization.
1. Downward communication originates at upper levels of mgmt & flows down to the lower levels of the organization.
2. Upward communication is the flow of communication up though the chain of command from lower positions in the organization to higher position positions.
3. With lateral communication, information flows neither downward nor upward: it flows between mgrs & peers or coworkers also workers in different units
Breifly describe 2 main types of informal communication found in a typical organization
Networks are formed between of different sections/units who regularly interact to accomplish the mission. Networks link individuals into a "communication web" where they share & exchange strengths to overcome obstacles and resolve otherwise irresolvable problems.
2. Rumor Mill, the grapevine is the most unmonitored form of verbal communication within the organization and it acts w/o conscious effort or thought at anytime anywhere.

What causes laguage barriers.
An inability to use the right word/s to communicate with a receiver.

Managerial barriers. Managerial barriers could result in the subordinates not particpating in or providing inputfor office discussions.
