New recruits come Paul talks about how Kat is the smartest soldier, how he finds food The men argue about how war should be fought Himmelstool used to be a mailman. A little authority made him an ass Himmelstool has to go to the front Tjaden wet the bed. Put bed wetters on the same bunk. Gives Himmelstool a beating before going tho the front |

Tjaden calls him a dirty hound and Himmelstool goes to report him Kat is worried Tjaden will get in trouble Make fun of there old teacher Tjaden and Kropp have company jail. Himmelstool gets lectured Paul and Kat steel a goose and cook it |

They are in the trenches They are bombarded The French are winning they can tell by food supplies Recruits die Himmelstool try's to get out of the battle Paul kicks him and then sends him to was Westhus died 32 people are left |

The men are further back on the line Himmelstool is now buddy buddy He help an injured soldier off the battlefield Paul meets girls and gets something going Paul goes on break for 17 days cause of injury A jackass major tells him he better be saluted Paul's sister cries His mom is really ill with cancer He lies to the guys mom who died at the beginning of the book Visits friend Kantorek is now enrolled and is getting hell from Paul's friend |

Paul is stationed at a camp being trained There's a prison camp for Russians next door On the last Sunday before Paul leaves his sister and father come down and inform him of his mothers condition She is in the hospital Paul is given potato chips and jam and was going to give it to the prisoners but he guessed it would be the last thing his mom makes him |

He arrives back at his station and shares jam and chips with friends He volunteers to go see the enemies and see strength Naked soldiers are blown up Paul gets stuck on the battlefield during an attack Paul killed someone |

They throw a feast in an abandoned village Balloons see smoke and start dropping shells on the village They keep cooking and having food and smoking all day Paul and Kropp getting injuries by shells they are fine and didn't get there legs amputated A nun watches over them Kropp gets a fever Kropps in pain he keeps moaning in pain but no one helps Nuns are praying Kropps leg is amputated He becomes depressed Some guy had sex in there while they harder the door |

Paul returns to the front line They are attacked but the Germans counterattack Everyone dies Paul gets boots and a wallet from muller Kat was killed on the way to the hospital. Paul carried him all the way there |
