Step 1

tumble the powder within the container. while doing this explain it to the patient

pick the type of tray you want to use. rim lock or perforated are the best to use. try in the trays on both the mandibular and maxillary teeth to ensure proper fit.

step 3

scoop powder lightly into the scoop. do not pack the scoop. scrape of any excess powder on top of the scoop with the spatula

Empty 2 scoops into a clean dry mixing bowl for the mandibular, and 3 for the maxillary

for 2 scoops of powder use 2/3 measurement of water, for 3 scoops of powder fill the entire measuring cup with room temperature water

mix water and powder carefully until all the powder is wet. do not whip or stir the alginate material. spatulate the material against the side of the bowl.

step 7

when the alginate appears homogenous and creamy, being to load your trays. load the mandibular from the lingual side, place the majority of the alginate in the posterior

step 8

take a wet finger and use it to smooth the alginates surface, to try to eliminate any air pockets. reassure the patient to relax and breath deeply.

step 9

insert the filled tray into the mouth. use the tray to open the mouth by having it push the side of the cheek while you retract the other side with your finger. press the tray in to place and hold it there til the material sets.
