What type of "gauge" is connected to the standpipe, and why?
Inline Standpipe Gauge, otherwise, there is no way to know the pressure from the standpipe.

This is analogous for placing the "attack engine" on the standpipe floor.

HRTM 9, 8
Who is usually the standpipe control person?
Fire Attack 1 Specialist

HRTM 9,(1)
If using a 2-1/2" gated wye, what do you use to control water flow?
Standpipe wheel, NOT the handle on the wye.

HRTM 10,(11)
What things must be done when ready to open the standpipe wheel to charge the line?
-Must have a firefighter at each elevation change while charging, to keep hose from moving...
-Rule of Thumb is to open wheel all the way, then turn back two half turns...
-Flush nozzle until pressure reading on in-line gauge indicates pressure listed on gauge for amount of hose in use...

-Pressure control on the in-line guage is responsibility of Standpipe Control Person.
- water flow from standpipe should make the building fire pump start resulting in a noticeable increase in pressure and flow. If this does not occur, inform command that the pump needs to be started manually or FDC supplied.

HRTM 10 (12)

Reduces kinks
