He and his followers sailed westward through the Mediterranean after defeat at Troy by the Greek forces. First he landed in Carthage, here he fell in love with the queen dido. Aeneas left her when the gods called him to Italy. After Aeneas left dido committed suicide. Aeneas landed in latinium and married Lavinia after killing her bethrothed in a duel. Aeneas' son iulius was to found the city of alba longa. Aeneas disappeared in battle land was raised to the status of god.
