ABG's = hypoxia/hypercapnia
CXR = congestion/L ventricular hypertrophy
TX = O2, decreased sodium & fluid intake
Meds = ACE inhibitors, Digoxin, Diuretics and Nitroglycerine
ARDS or Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Fluid in lungs = stiffness
Decreased O2 & perfusion
Altered LOC
Anxiety/Restlessness
Adventitious breath sounds

ABG's = metabolic/respiratory acidosis
Hypoxia that doesn't respond to F102
Culture = infection
CXR = infiltrates
TX = bed rest, passive ROM, physiotherapy, suction, restrict fluids, O2 - peep.
Meds = Bronchodilators, A/B, and steroids.
Monitor I/O's. Reposition q2h, high fowlers position, TPN or enteral feedings, and daily weight
Pleural Effusion
excess fluid in pleural space
Decrease breath sounds
Dyspnea
Fever
Pleuritic chest pain
CXR = fluid
Thoracentesis = lactate dehydrogenase (LD) levels less than 200 IU and protein less than 3g/dL.
TX = thoracentesis w/ chest tube if needed
Admin O2 and monitor for complications of thoracentesis
Chest tube care and drainage monitoring
