What does ABC stand for?

A: airway B: breathing C: circulation

Why antenatal screenings happen?

To make sure that the baby it growing correctly in the womb.

What are ultrasounds for?

They show how the baby develops and to check the baby's heart rate.

What happens during the first trimester of pregnancy?

(0-3 months) ears, teeth, toes, fingers are visible. Morning sickness is common and they begin ti gain weight.

What happens in the second trimester of pregnancy?

(3-6 months) The fetus grows and moves more regularly. The mothers heart rate increases.

What happens in the third trimester of pregnancy?

(6-9 months) the fetus grows more. The mothers skin stretches. She will feel tired and breathless. Back pain and heartburn are common.

What is IVF?

It means the egg is fertilised by sperm in a glass container.

What are the five stages of IVF?

1. Hormone treatment


2. Collection of womens eggs


3. The eggs are fertilised to produce embryos


4. The embryos are checked to see if they are healthy


5. Healthy embryos are injected into the uterus


6. Nine months later the baby is born.

Why do you test urine in pregnant women?

To test for levels of protein and glucose which can give a warning of complications.
