How have desert animals adapted to save water and keep cool ?

Large surface area compared to volume- this lets desert animals lose more body heat.
Efficient with water- produce small concentrated amounts of urine. They also make very little sweat . Camels have very thin layers of body fat and a thin coat to help them lose body heat. Camouflage- They have a sandy colour to help them avoid predators and sneak up on prey. |

How have arctic animals adapted to reduce heat loss ?

Small surface area compared with volume- keeping there surface area to a minimum helps to reduce heat loss.
Well Insulated- they have a thick layer of blubber for insulation. They also have thick coats to keep body heat in. Camouflage- Arctic animals have white fur to help them avoid predators and to sneak up prey. |

How have desert plants adapted to having very little water ?

Small surface area compared to volume- plants lose water vapour from the surface of their leaves so cacti have spines instead of leaves to reduce water loss.
Water storage tissues- Cacti stores water in there thick stem. Maximising water absorption- some cacti have shallow but extensive roots to absorb water quickly over a large area. Others have deep reach to access underground water. |
