What is speciation?

The development of a new species.

What needs to happen for speciation to occur?

Populations of the same species become reproductively isolated. The changes in alleles and phenotype a prevent them from successfully breeding together.

What changes can cause speciation?

Seasonal- individuals develop different mating seasons.



Mechanical- changes in genitalia prevent successful mating.



Behavioural- individuals develop courtship rituals that aren't attractive to the main population.
