Deemphasis classic school, setting more hands on, social devel., more active, takes in to account where kids are developmentally.
Direct Instruction schools?-
Very sit up and listen, school ready programs.
Cognitive changes in elementary school?
Able to inhibit behaviors, frontal lobe activity.
Emotional changes in elementary school?
Younger preschool kids are very confident- element. kids may have less confidence b/c of negative feedback and being judged.

inability to pay attention, hyperactivity or restlessness, impulsivity. Stimulant.
Middle/High school transitions? Negative aspects?
Stressful transitions, less exposure to one teacher, more peers in the pool.

Puberty, body image, comfort level decreased.

Pull away from parents, more attached to peer groups, need for friendship and romantic relationships. (all anxiety provoking)

Going from being the oldest in the school to the youngest etc.
Causes of dropout?
May hate school, strongly victimized, may have to work to support family, not doing well etc.
What races are most likely to dropout?
Latinos and Native Americans.
College transition positive?
Personal fulfillment, independence, intellectual challenge.
College transition negative?
Pressure to achieve, depression and stress, impersonal environment.
