Seth
god of storms, master of the desert, beats and kills Osiris (his brother), jealousy, was defeated by his nephew, Horus.

Benu Bird

Egypt's Decline
Ramses II kept the Egyptian empire together; ordered the construction of temples and monuments. The Sea People invaded, and weakened Egypt.
Early Steps Toward Civilization
River Valley People: farmers, miners (copper), make bronze (copper + tin), glaze pottery. Developed hieroglyphics, written on papyrus. Thousands of years later, the hieroglyphics were translated with the Rosetta Stone, which stated Egypt's history.
What was Egyptian farming like?
Peasants did most of the farming - flax and cotton were two important crops. The pharaoh kept most of the crops - the peasants got only some.
What was Egyptian trade like?
Tightly controlled by the government, Egyptians traded their surplus of crops with other peoples, rode in caravans, traveled long distances in ships.
