A comparison that uses like or as.

Idiom

Something that a person would say that you're not supposed to take literally.



e.g. Before the play, Little Timmy's dad told him to break a leg. His dad didn't mean it literally of course... or did he... *insert dramatic music*

Hyperbole

An EXTREME exaggeration.



e.g. Mom-I've told you to clean your room a million times.

Alliteration
