Fixed hard disk image
|
The image file is the maximum size of the virtual hard drive at the time of creation. If you create an 8GB VHD the file will be 8GB at creation.

Dynamic Hard Disk image
|
Has a set max size but starts off small. Takes up only as much space as it needs up to the max size. Efficient for HD space but not processing as you lose efficiencies to dynamic expansion.

Differencing hard disk image
|
Child image file associated with a specific parent image. System writes all changes made on the parent image file to the child image to facilitate a rollback.
