How many portable oxygen bottles are there and where are they generally located?
Twenty-seven oxygen bottles. Two in the flight deck, one in the flight deck crew rest area, four on upper deck, twenty in the main cabin.
What is the intended purpose for portable oxygen bottles and where are they located?
Used as walk-around units and for therapeutic reasons. Found on the flightdeck, crew rest area, and cabin.
Where are the two emergency locator transmitters located?
In the overhead stowage at doors 1L and 4L.
How does the flight deck emergency escape hatch open?
It is a plug-type hatch which must open inwards. Can be opened from inside or outside. Does not detach.
How many emergency escape descent devices are stowed adjacent to the flight deck overhead hatch?
Five.
Where is the smoke barrier installed?
In the sidewall at the top of the stairs to the upper deck.
Which main deck passenger doors contain escape slides that can also be used as rafts?
Doors 1, 2, 4, 5, Left and Right.
What type slide is contained in door 3 Left and Right?
A one-piece ramp and off-wing slide that cannot be used as a raft.
What are the two positions of the door 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Mode Selector Handles and briefly describe the door operation in each position?
Manual position - door must be manually opened or closed with no power assist; slide deactivated.Automatic position - door is pneumatically powered open following manual initial opening effort by crewmember and slide is deployed.
What should occur when doors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are opened in AUTOMATIC?
Door is positioned to full open by pneumatic power assist.-Slide automatically deploys and inflates.
If the door is opened in AUTO, but the slide did NOT inflate, what should the crewmember do?
Pull the Red Manual Inflation handle at the bottom of the door frame near the girt bar.
What is located in the end of the overhead luggage compartment at doors 3 left and right to assist exiting the aircraft on the wings if the slides are not deployed?
Escape straps that extend out the open door and attach to fittings located on the top of the wing between the engine nacelles.
What type escape devices are available on the upper deck doors?
Each door has a slide that is for evacuation only, NO life raft usage.
What modes of operation are available on the upper deck doors?
AUTOMATIC or MANUAL.
When would the upper deck door AUTOMATIC mode be used? MANUAL?
For emergency evacuation only. Manual is for maintenance use only.
What occurs when you move an upper deck door operating handle to OPEN with the mode selector handle in AUTOMATIC?
The door is mechanically unlatched, the squib activates on the emergency power reservoir and pneumatic pressure opens the door up and out. Opening the door mechanically deploys the slide pack and automatic inflation occurs.
How can the upper deck door be opened when the mode selector handle is in the MANUAL position?
The upper deck door, MANUAL mode, is opened by an electric motor powered from the airplane buses. The door opens without slide deployment. (Maintenance function only).
Can the upper deck door be opened from the exterior of the aircraft?
Yes.
How can the upper deck door's battery be checked?
Push the BATTERY OK light located above each upper deck door for 3 - 5 seconds. The green light illuminates if battery charge is sufficient to discharge the squib of the emergency power pneumatic reservoir.
What is designed to prevent inflight operation of the upper deck door operating handles?
A flight lock solenoid controlled by air/ground sensing.
How would an inflight failure of the flight lock solenoid be indicated to the crew?
Master Caution, beeper, EICAS Caution message DOOR U/D FLT LK.-Upper Deck flight attendant would see the blue DOOR GROUND MODE light illuminate. This light normally illuminates on the ground, but abnormally inflight when the flight lock mechanism is NOT in the locked position.
In flight, you receive indications that the flight lock is NOT in the locked position. What is the status of that door?
Operation of that door's Door Operating Handle is physically possible and the door might open if the pressure differential is low enough.-It does NOT indicate the door itself is unlocked.
How do you use the emergency escape descent devices located in the flight deck overhead cabinet?
Remove the device from its container.-Open the inward opening overhead escape hatch.-Take the device with you and exit the aircraft through the overhead hatch.-Holding the device with both hands over your head, lower yourself with your back to the aircraft. (Inertia reels limit the speed of descent).
What type of fires can Halon fire extinguishers be used against?
Any type, but primarily Class B and C. Halon is intended for use on electrical, grease and flammable liquid fires.
What precaution should the flight deck crew take before a halon fire extinguisher is discharged on the flight deck?
All flight crew members should wear their oxygen mask and use 100 percent oxygen.
What type fires are water fire extinguishers primarily used against?
Class A combustible type materials such as paper, waste or cloth fires. Do NOT use on grease or electrical fires.
Where is the flight deck control switch that controls all interior and exterior emergency lights located?
The EMER LIGHTS switch is located on the Overhead Maintenance panel.
When the EMER LIGHTS switch is in the ARMED position, what is it's function?
It allows automatic illumination of the emergency lights whenever DC power fails or is turned OFF.
Is there another switch that will illuminate all interior and exterior emergency lights?
Yes, a switch at door 2L is available to the flight attendants. (Aircraft 6301 - 6310 flight attendant panel - aircraft 6311 and beyond switch is located between flight attendant seats at main deck door 2L). It works regardless of the position of the flight deck EMER LIGHTS switch.
The emergency lighting system includes:
Flight deck ceiling emergency lights; main cabin door, aisle, cross aisle, exit and escape path lights; exterior door and escape slide lights.
How are all emergency lights and exit lights powered?
By self-contained NICAD batteries. There are luminescent Exit Signs that glow for approximately 15 minutes at each exit.
How are the emergency lights NICAD batteries charged?
DC bus 4 normally charges the batteries. They will normally provide 15 minutes of illumination when fully charged.
Who is authorized to use the defibrillator?
A trained flight attendant, a trained defibrillator operator, any flight attendant under the direction of the Mayo Clinic.
Is there a way to evacuate smoke from the flight deck?
Yes, by pulling the Smoke Evacuation handle located on the overhead circuit breaker panel.
What condition causes a "DOOR L UPPER DK" EICAS Advisory message?
Door NOT latched condition is sensed.
TRUE or FALSE: If smoke goggles are needed, they must be put on after the oxygen mask is donned.
True.
What types of additional emergency equipment are stowed on the aircraft?
Crash axe in flight deck; THREE megaphones, ONE at door 1 and 4 Left and ONE on the upper deck; flashlight holder at each flight attendant station; FIVE first aid kits in the upper deck and main cabin; smoke goggles at flight deck crew positions; life vests for all crewmembers, passengers (adults and children), and infant life vests (15); NINE portable breathing devices (PBE), ONE each, at the following areas; flight deck, upper deck door LT, top of the staircase just outside the upper galley, flight attendant rest area, main cabin doors 1L, 2L and 3L; main cabin door 4L has 2 PBEs. There is also an expanded Medical Kit (XMK), a Medical Pouch and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) located forward of door 5R in the overhead storage bin. A spare XMK is located in the forward storage compartment of business class.
