What is a sacrament/holy mystery?
An outward or visable sign of invisible grace. God's life within us.
Why do we call sacraments mysteries?
Because we can never fully understand them. They have visible and invisible qualities.
Are Holy Mysteries personal?
Yes, what occurs between God and the person is special to them, though the actions(rituals) are the same.
Baptism is
for the remission of sins & entrance into the Church; Baptism cleanses all sins including ancestral sin.
Who may Baptize?
A priest may baptize. In the case of emergency anyone may baptize.
How do we baptize in an emergency?
We pour water on the persons head 3 times saying, (name) I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen
Eucharist is
receiving the body and blood of Christ in the form of bread and wine.
Chrismation (Confirmation) is
the Sacrament which seals the Holy Spirit inside you in a special way. A personal Pentacost.
How does the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ?
At Divine Liturgy, during the consecration prayers offered by the priest
Does the bread and wine become the body & blood of Christ?
Yes, through the Holy Mystery of the Eucharist it invisably changes to body & blood but visably remains as bread& wine.
Confession is
the Sacrament through which our sins are forgiven, and our relationship to God and to others is restored and strengthened
Who are we confessing to?
to God and God is the one who forgives us.
What does the Priest do in confession?
the sacramental witness who represents both Christ and His people. He is a physician and guide to help us.
When must we go to confession?
we must go once a year or after we have commited a mortal(serious) sin. But more frequent confessions are best.
Marriage is
a man & a woman are publicly joined as husband& wife.They enter into a new relationship with each other, God, & the Church.
What is the purpose of Marriage?
To help one another to heaven and to have children
Holy Orders is
A calling by God to the priesthood.Through ordination by the Bishop a man becomes a priest
What are the duties only a priest can perform?
Divine Liturgy & all the sacraments except ordanation which the Bishop presides over.
There are 3 major orders
Deacon
Priest
Bishop
Holy Unction or Anointing of the sick is
the priest using blessed oils to anoint the sick, suffering or in danger of death.
Does Holy Unction heal?
It may heal emotionally, mentally, spiritually &/or physically. It always gives us God's grace so we may continue to do His will.
