Proclamation of 1763

1. The event that led to this was the French and Indian war.


2. They couldn't move west of the Appalachian mountains.


3. Great Britain passed the proclamation so they can prevent a conflict from the native americans, also so the British can control fur trade.


4. It was not fair to keep the colonies from moving west because that prevented them form doing trade and getting other goods.

The Writs of assistance

1. The Writs of Assistance allowed customs customs officers to enter any location to search search for smuggled goods.


2. Great Britain passed this law because people were smuggling goods to avoid taxes.


3. Colonists were smuggling goods so they can avoid taxes.


4. Colonists felt like there rights were being violated as english citizens. By having there houses searched.

Sugar act

1. The sugar act taxed on all imported molasses.


2. Great Britain passed this law so the officers could seize all smuggled goods without going to court.


3. James Otis quote was "No parts of [England's colonies]...can be taxed without their consent...every part has a right to be represented."

Stamp act

1. The stamp act placed taxes on all printed goods such as newspapers, wills, and playing cards.


2. This act taxed any printed material and the printed material had to have a stamp when it was taxed.


3. The reason why people protested against the Stamp act is because the parliment had interfered in colonial affairs by taxing the colonies directly. Also it taxed colonists without their consent.


4. Patrick Henry showed his displeasurment by taking action against the Stamp act.

Sons of liberty

1. The sons of Liberty was created by Samuel Adams.


2. The Sons of Liberty protested against the Stamp Act by burning rag dolls that represented tax collectors, also destroyed public officials houses. Lastly the Sons of Liberty drafted petitions to the king and the Parliment that said the colonies could not be taxed except by their own assemblies.

Declaratory act

1. Great Britain passed the Declaratory act so the Parliment could make decisions for the British colonies in all cases.


2. The Declaratory act had the right to to tax and make decisions for the British colonies.



Townshed act

1. The Townshed act made colonists pay for their taxes.


2. The Townshed act taxed any shipments of glass, tea, and paper.


3. Colonists argued that only their own representatives had the right to tax them.


4. The Colonists urged Americans to wear home-made fabrics and produce other goods they needed rather than buy British goods.
