Closed verses open-skill activities
Closed-skill activities have characteristics that do not vary much such as running on a track, bowling, and riding an exercise bike. Open-skill activities have characteristics that change often such as the speed and trajectory of a ball or the use of offensive and defensive strategies. Examples are volleyball and soccer. Open-skill activities are more difficult for an individual who is deafblind and need to be modified for them to take part.
Comparables
Sets of objects that are in the same category but vary a little in characteristics for the purpose of enabling the child to make comparisons in preparation for later matching. Example: a set of spoons of different sizes, some wood, some metal, and some plastic
Developmentally appropriate
The use of materials and strategies in play and leisure that same age peers use.
Passive leisure
Activities such as reading, listening to music, watching TV, attending a sports event or a concert.
