Continental Drift
|
The hypothesis stating that the continents once formed a sigle land mass, broke up, and drifted to their present locations. This was named by Alfred Wegener in 1912.

This means "All Lands". It was a single land mass thought to have been the origin of all continents as hypothesized by Wegener.

|
This means "All Seas", it was a giant ocean which surrounded Pangaea. This was hypothesised by Wegener.

It was a small, extinct, land reptile that lived 270 million years ago. It has already been found in Eastern South America and Western Africa. This was evidence for Wegeners hyphothesis because the reptile could not have swum across the Atlantic and there was no evidence of land bridges linking the continents.

|
An undersea mountain range with a steep, narrow valley along it's center. It was mapped by a group of scientists in 1947.

|
An 80,000 km long system of undersea mountain ridges that wind around the earth.

|
The movement of the ocean floor away from either side of a mid-ocean ridge. This movement was named by Robert Dietz.
