Anticoagulants

-if patient is taking this, they require a special blood test called "prothrombin time" aka PT-INR


-stay away from vitamin k rich foods like green leafy vegetables when taking warfarin


-antidote to warfarn is vitamin k.

Antiplatelet

-prevent platelet adhesion


-no specific drug test


-includes: aspirin, clopidogrel, prasugrel, ticagrelor, tirofiban, epitibatide, abciximab

Thrombolytic Drugs

-breakdown of clots


-includes streptokinase, urokinase, anistreplase, alteplase, reteplase, & tenecteplase


-MOA: activate the fibrinolytic system to break down the clot in the blood vessel, activate plasminogen and convert it to plasmin, which can digest fibrin, reestablish blood flow to the heart muscle via coronary arteries, preventing tissue destruction


-Indications: don't give after surgery


-AE: bleeding (signs are lethargic, brusing)
