POSTGANGLIONIC PS SECRETOMOTOR FIBERS
4. Postganglionic parasympathetic secretomotor fibers from the pterygo-
palatine ganglion course with the greater palatine, lesser palatine, and
nasopalatine nerves and stimulate secretion of palatal glands
DESCENDING PALATINE ARTERY

-arises from?
1. Descending palatine artery

a. Arises from the maxillary artery within the pterygopalatine fossa;
descends in the greater palatine canal and divides into the greater
and lesser palatine arteries
DESCENDING PALATINE ARTERY

GREATER PALATINE ARTERY
1. Descending palatine artery

b. Greater palatine artery: emerges from the greater palatine foramen
and courses anteriorly on the hard palate with the greater palatine
nerve; in contrast to the greater palatine nerve, however, the greater
palatine artery continues forward, beyond the canine, through the
incisive fossa and incisive canal, to supply the anteroinferior part of
the nasal septum
DESCENDING PALATINE ARTERY

LESSER PALATINE ARTERIES
1. Descending palatine artery

c. Lesser palatine arteries: emerge through the lesser palatine foramina
to course with the lesser palatine nerves within the soft palate
ASCENDING PALATINE ARTERY
2. Ascending palatine artery: branch of the facial artery; ascends on the
lateral aspect of the superior pharyngeal constrictor, arches medially over
the superior border of the superior pharyngeal constrictor, and descends
on the levator veli palatini to supply the soft palate

3. Veins: accompany their corresponding arteries
