Gene

A sequence of nucleotides forming part of a chromosome, the order of which determines the order of monomers in a distinct sequence of nucleotides forming part of a chromosome, the order of which determines the order of monomers in a polypeptide or nucleic acid molecule which a cell (or virus) may synthesize.

Genotype

A specific combination of alleles at one or more loci on a chromosome.

Allele

A version of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same loci.

Phenotype

Set of observable characteristics that arise as a result of the interaction between the genotype and the environment

Recessive

relating to or denoting heritable characteristics controlled by genes which are expressed in offspring only when inherited from both parents.

Dominant

Gene is expressed even if the person only inherits one allele that codes for the characteristic

Incomplete dominance

Incomplete dominance is a form of intermediate inheritance in which one allele for a specific trait is not completely expressed over its paired allele. This results in a third phenotype.

Homozygote

Identical alleles for a specific trait

Heterozygote

Different alleles for a specific trait
