Must wear this when present at scene of police incident, and do this, if possible, before taking police action

Properly identify self prior to taking any police action, if possible




(step 6, 6a)

How long will short-term investigations be conducted, what are they related to, and who may extend such time?

Conduct short-term investigations, not to exceed 2 hours, within command boundaries, directly related to street/subway crimes or burglaries except when CO/XO extends such time.

Do not conduct lineup or show photographs without permission of whom?

No lineups conducted or photographs shown without permission of detective squad supervisor or qualified supervisor or investigating unit (such as RAM, etc)

List the 5 circumstances that a vehicle may be stopped:

Reasonable Suspicion occupant's committing/committed/about to commit a crime


Probable Cause occupant's committed crime


Reasonable Suspicion exists that a violation of the VTL has been committed


Probable Cause exists that a violation of the a VTL has been committed


Non-arbitrary, non-discretionary, systematic vehicle checkpoint

When practical, AC POs will do this

Utilize portable red light, NYPD windbreaker jacket, NYPD baseball cap and/or COD. Contact Central and request marked RMP to respond

Civilian clothed UMOS will conduct these checks and when a vehicle stop is made on the basis of an observed traffic infraction, they will take this type of action

Conduct taxi/livery checks pursuant to Taxi/Livery Robbery Inspection Program (TRIP)


Passenger vehicle checks pursuant to the Combat Auto Theft (CAT) program. Take proper police action, including issuance of summonses when a stop is made on the basis of an observed traffic infraction.
