A group of people with:
1. Common TERRITORY
2. INTERACTION
3. CULTURE
Define Territory as defined by Society.
An area to call your own.

Members of a society must come into to contact with each other.
Culture
Refers to language, cvalues, belieifs, behavior and material objectsthat constitutes peoples way of life.
It is the defining element of society.
Pluralistic society.
Built of many groups.
Assimilation
When a group seeking to become part of a pluralistic society gives up thier original traditions in order to fit in.
Multiculturalism
Recognition of a groups original heritage, groups do not have to loose their inidividual markers.

Hunting & Gathering
Survive by hunting game and gathering edible plants.
Horticultural Societies
This type of society uses hand tools to tend crops
Pastoral Societies
Rely on the domestication and breeding of animals for food.
Agricultural Societies
Tend crops with animals harnessed to a plow.
Industrial Societies
use of advanced sources of energy, rather than humans and animals, to run large machinary.
Steam engine was major development.
Post Induistrial Societies
A society where economy is based on services, technology, not production.
Mass Society
Individual achievemnet is valued over kinship ties, people often feel isolated, higher personal income, great diversity among people.
