1. Arises in the neck from the external carotid artery and appears along

can be felt here); it then ascends deep to the facial musculature, cours-
ing near the corner ofthe mouth and along the side ofthe nose toward
the medial angle of the eye
FACIAL ARTERY; BRANCHES

INFERIOR LABIAL ARTERY
2. Branches

a. Inferior labial artery: arises inferior to the corner ofthe mouth and
courses medially within the lower lip
FACIAL ARTERY; BRANCHES

SUPERIOR LABIAL ARTERY
2. Branches

b. Superior labial artery: arises superior to the corner ofthe mouth and
courses medially within the upper lip
FACIAL ARTERY; BRANCHES

LATERAL NASAL ARTERY
2. Branches

c. Lateral nasal artery: arises distal to the superior labial artery and
courses forward on the side of the nose; distal to the lateral nasal
artery, the facial artery is sometimes called the angular artery
OPHTHALMIC ARTERY

ARISES WHERE?
B. Ophthalmic artery

1. Arises from the internal carotid artery within the cranial cavity and
courses forward within the orbit; branches that emerge from the orbit
to supply the face are noted below
OPHTHALMIC ARTERY

SUPRAORBITAL ARTERY
B. Ophthalmic artery

2. Supraorbital artery: emerges from the supraorbital foramen and courses
with the supraorbital nerve
OPHTHALMIC ARTERY

SUPRATRHOCHLEAR ARTERY
B. Ophthalmic artery

3. Supratrochlear artery: emerges from the frontal notch and courses with
the supratrochlear nerve
OPHTHALMIC ARTERY

DORSAL NASAL ARTERY
B. Ophthalmic artery

4. Dorsal nasal artery: emerges from the orbit with the infratrochlear nerve
and anastomoses with the angular artery
OPHTHALMIC ARTERY

MEDIAL AND LATERAL PALPEBRAL ARTERIES
B. Ophthalmic artery

5. Medial and lateral palpebral arteries: supply the medial and lateral parts
ofthe eyelids, respectively
MAXILLARY ARTERY

ARISES FROM?
C. Maxillary artery

1. Arises from the external carotid artery posterior to the neck ofthe man-
dible and courses within the deep face; its branches to the face are noted
below
