Risk factors: Giant cell arteritis, fibrinoplatelet plaques, calcific plaques, migrantes, contraceptives.
Sx: VA poor. Sudden (seconds) unilateral painless vision loss, preceeded by amaurosis fugax,

1) Characterized by a “cherry-red spot” in the macula

SXs: Reduced VA, possible scotoma, possible hyperopic shift, difficulty moving from light to dark.
Key: Amsler Grid Distortion

Diagnosis Criteria
1) Loss of foveal reflex
2) Dome shaped elevation over fovea/macula

Risk Factors: Diabetic
Sxs: Gradually decreasing vision (20/25-20/50). Diabetic symptoms (polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, weight loss, fatigue, delayed wound healing, tritan color defects, fluctuating vision)
Key: Amsler Grid Distortion

Macular Hole
Fundus Lens

Age: Middle aged to older patient
Sx: Gradual painless vision loss, Central scotoma: 20/100-20/200, gray ring on retina, distortion, possible from trauma
Key: Amsler Grid Hole

Diagnosis Criteria
1) Red circular hole near macular surrounded by elevation
2) Small yellowish deposits in center of hole
Posterior Vitreous Detachment

Age: Middle age to elderly patient
Risk Factors: aphakia, trauma
Sxs: Acute onset of flashes/floaters, Floaters move with eye movement. Often 20/20 VA.

Diagnosis Criteria
1) Weiss Ring (ring shaped floater/haziness) above ONH
Retinal Detachment

Risk factors: Myopia, cataract surgery, trauma, elderly
Sxs: Preceeded by flashes/floaters. Shadow or curtain of blurred vision. Possibly trauma caused. Possibly 20/20 vision.

Retinitis Pigmentosa

Progressive tunnel vision. Night blindness.

1) Bone spicules in retinal periphery

3) Pigment surrounded by "moth eaten" areas of atrophy

Risk Factors: Light iris, white, smokers, hyperopia, cardiovascular disease
Sxs: Distortion. Blur (20/50-100 if the foveal area is involved). Decentered vision. Prolonged photostress recovery time. Amsler Grid distortion

Diagnosis Criteria
1) Greyish/green/brown if older SRNVM
2) Reddish if between RPE and sensory retina

Clear Care
SCL - 3 drops for 20 seconds. Rinse 5 seconds. Soak 6 hours-7 days. Put directly in eye in morning. Replace case 3 months. Aquify Comfort Drops. Unizyme Enzymatic Cleaner (weekly): 1/2 tablet. Dissolve. Shake. Soak 10 mins - 12 hours. Clean and disinfect lenses with Aquify in morning.

Clean with normal cleanser. Put lenses in vial. Add A and B. Shake gently. Soak 30 mins max (or discolor) Remove lenses and clean with normal care system. Wear lenses.
