VII Facial nerve testing?
Anterior 2/3 of tongue is
tested for the ability to
taste sweet, sour,& bitter
substances. Symmetry of face
is checked. Asked to smile,
whistle, close eyes ect..
Tearing assessed with
ammonia fumes.
VIII Vestibulocochlear
nerve testing?
Check hearing with a
tuning fork. Hearing
checked by air &
bone conduction.
IX Glossopharyngeal nerve testing?
Postion of uvula is checked.
Gag & swallowing reflexes
are checked. Asked to speak
& cough. Posterior 1/3 of
tongue may be tested for taste.
X Vagus nerve testing?
Postion of uvula is checked.
Gag & swallowing reflexes
are checked. Asked to speak
& cough. Posterior 1/3 of
tongue may be tested for taste.
XI Accessory nerve testing?
Sternocleidomastoid and
trapezius muscles are
checked for strength.
Asked to rotate head &
shoulders against Resistance.
XII Hypoglossal nerve testing.
Asked to protrude & retract
tongue, any deviations in
position is noted
